Stay or Go?

Last night I went to my daughter's choir concert.  The songs were just as beautiful as the girls.
I watched in amazement. The kids…well, they’re not kids any more. Those cracking voices and wiggle worms have grown into elegance. It seemed to happen so very quickly too, like when I blinked!

I’ve noticed over the past few years though, parents are no longer staying for the entire school concert.

We stayed for the entire event. But as the evening wore on, I could have had my choice of seats in the front rows because others were leaving.

It’s hard to juggle busy schedules — some kids with games, others haven’t eaten dinner yet, or done their homework — but it’s kind of sad to watch as a group completes their performance and a whole cluster of seats empty as parents and siblings make a beeline for the door.

The school used to require the kids performing to stay and watch the others but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

I confess: I’ve done it myself. And there were a few elementary concerts — you know the ones where you’re not sure exactly what song they’re playing — when I could hardly sit through my own daughter’s group.
What do you think? Stay or go?
