Cupcake-A-Licious!

I got my bakerella on this weekend and made some Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes.

I make cupcakes about once a year, IF that.
So this was a ball hit waaayyy out of the park for this mama.

I even got out the cake decorating kit I bought, ohhh about six years ago.
I had to dig it out of the storage room.

I did my version of the fancy swirl.

I think they look good.

Good enough to EAT!

Brother likes 'em.

...and Big Daddy.

Sissy couldn't stop talking to Boyfriend long enough to join us,
so she's doing the one handed cupcake.

When I took Sissy her treat,
I found this...

They may not be the prettiest, but they sure were Yummy!

Now for the Best part.

I'm going to share with you a tip I learned recently from a blog friend of mine.  You may want to visit her at Mommy Mishmash if you haven't already.  Katy Brown is a wife, mom and part-time super-hero. She lives in a humble, cozy home with her SuperHub and three adorable kids.

She. Is. A. Hoot!

This is what I learned recently from Katy, and it's actually the reason I even Made the cupcakes in the first place.

Just so I could do THIS!

THIS, my friends, is the correct way to eat a cupcake:

I Love it!

Thank you Katy!  I do believe I will be a baker of cupcakes more often.

She Took One For The Team

It's here!  It's here!  It's Jamfest weekend!

Jamfest is a national cheer competition. Teams come from all over to compete at this event.  This is Carody's first time participating and she's been Uber excited.  She's been working extra hard on her tumbling, lifts, and dance.  I don't know who's more excited for this day, her or me.  Well, one day she's super excited and the next day she's overcome with anxiety.  I guess it's all part of the competitive game.

The wait is over.  It's the day of competition and time to get ready.

This is my sweet, fresh faced Carody before:

Cheer competition make up is very sparkly.

In fact, it's All Glitter!

This is Cheer Carody ...After:

Later...
The girls start to arrive at the Expo Center, glitter and all.
Nervous yet excited.

It's wild and crazy, but in a good way.
Sparkly, bow headed girls are bouncing around everywhere!

I haven't got this cheer photography down yet.
The lighting is bad and the girls move super fast,
so my pictures aren't good at all.
I've got to work on that.

I knew when the girls entered the stage, the look on
Carody's face told me something wasn't right.
And it only got worse as they continued through the routine.

What I didn't know until the girls were done,
was that while in the practice room,
Carody took a fall and broke her ankle!

Unaware of the actual damage caused by the fall,
she went out and did the entire routine.

Stunts & All!

Later, she asked me, "Mom, did I smile?"
I told her, "Well, you were more like biting your teeth together.
But it looked good honey."

We didn't know it was broken until we took her to the hospital.

Carody is one heck of a team player.  She went through with it.  She completed the entire routine for herself and for her squad, never once complaining.  And she did it with a smile.
Now THAT's dedication.

If I had known about the injury before hand, I don't know that I would have let her go through with it.
I do know this:  I could not be more proud of my daughter.  She took one, a HUGE one, for the team.

"Carody, I am so very proud of you honey.  I love you!  I Love you!  I Love you!"

Young Love

Look'it what Carody got!

awww...isn't that sweet!?  Carody's boyfriend gave her flowers for their 6 month anniversary.  She's so happy!  I like it that she has someone in her life who treats her well.  I like this boy.

{{Pause some more...}}

{{Heavy Sigh}}

Ok, so let's talk about this shall we?  Cuz it's weighing heavy on my mind.

How do I really feel about this boyfriend stuff?

Welllllllll...

Boyfriends come and boyfriends go.  That's what they're supposed to do at 14.

Carody is young. She is easily confused about things, like whether she really wants to go to the pool with her friends or stay home to polish her nails, much less whether she is ready to commit to one person.  Yet, she and her boyfriend spend a lot of time together. After school, they hang out at our house, and every spare moment is spent texting or facebooking one another. She finds this completely romantic. I find it cute, but a little over consuming.

I remember what it was like to be young, and in love. I do. This boy is a great kid. He really is. He’s polite, good to her, and doesn’t mind spending time with us, her parents. I like that. But I also have a lifetime of wisdom, and a roster of mistakes I've made and learned from, that tell me 14 is too young to have this kind of an attachment to a boy.

She has her whole life ahead of her. She is smart, outgoing, and friendly …and she has a laugh that can turn my day from crappy to amazing in a quick second. I want the very best for her, and it worries me to think she may be looking for something outside of herself that is better found within.

Am I over thinking this?  Am I just being a worry wart?  If given a little time, will it just take care of itself?

Teaxture Tuesday

...on Wednesday!

Oh well, better late than never right!?!

Hay bales.  We pass by them every day.  It's part of our daily scenery.  They seem to have an invisible magnetic attraction.  Adults like the color, texture, and the meaning.  Kids like the rolled up fun of it!  You can climb on it, hide behind it, or even decorate it!  I just like 'em.  You see?  Invisible magnetic attraction,  Told ya!

As you know, Monday was Halloween.  My kids talk about the movie Monster House all the time.  I think I traumatised them when I took them to see it a couple years back.  It didn't go over well at all.  They point out old houses all the time thinking they're haunted.  We live in an old, did I mention ooold, small town ...and needless to say...half the town must be haunted according to my kids.

For both pictures I've used the texture Back In by Kim Klassen.  {Thank you Kim, I really enjoyed my play time!}

There's still time to join in Texture Tuesday!  Stop by and check out the great texture submissions...you'll be glad you did!

Lil' Punkin

This little cutie pie was a guest at our house on Halloween. It may be just slightly out of focus, but I still like it. She's cute, but she's quick!

Linking up today with:

Sweet Shot Day

A Fabulously Franklin Halloween

We started the evening with a Big 'ol Pot of "Goul"ash.
I read somewhere that if you feed the kids a heavy meal before they go Trick-Or-Treating
they won't eat as much candy.  I honestly think it did the trick!

The Champ! John Cena.

John Cena and "Jill"
Jack's not with me...he fell down the hill.

Ok, so I've started this thing with my daughter...
every time she picks up the camera she does this tilt thing.

Carody & the Little Devil...
Baby Nolan

awww...baby Nolan

Our old neighbors came by for a visit and they brought their Cutie McCutie Pants little girl.

I'll let it slide that she's wearing a MU Tigers costume, she obviously isn't old enough to know any better...And! She's so stinkin' cute that I'll just smile and keep my mouth shut.

This is our Big 'ol Bucket of candy.
We gave it all away too...not one bit of it left for mama!
That's ok...it's all good.

Carody and her friends were hanging out on the front porch, waiting for the night to begin.
Look at little Maisy in the back there, she's like, "Hey guys, what 'chya doin?"

Ok, so where did everyone go?  I think they went inside for some more goulash.

Oh!

Before you run off...

I just wanted to give a shout out to Mandy over at Sugar Bee Crafts.
She made her whole family's costumes...The Angry Birds.
I thought this was a Hoot!  Wish I would have thought of this.

Hope you had a great Halloween my Sweets!
