Being Beautiful

Over the weekend, I ran across a blog post stopped me in my tracks.

It was an out right challenge to take a self portrait of yourself, no make up, and a sign saying "I Am Beautiful!". Rachel, at and then she {snapped}, said it's meant to help us women (moms especially) not be so critical of ourselves.

Are You Out of Your Mind!?!

The more I thought about it the more I couldn't NOT think about it!

You see, this blog post couldn't have come at a better time for me.  I have been struggling with body image all my life.  Every day I think about it.  There are two things I can't shake right now.  1.)  It's been a long winter and we've been inside enjoying warm comfort food for quite some time now.  2.)  I'm at that age now where things are starting to happen to my body that I have absolutely no control over.  I always thought I would be able to take control, but that's not the case.  It's very unsettling.

I feel compelled to tell you Rachel, even though I don't know you...Thank You from the bottom of my heart for your post!  It was just what I needed.

Go over and visit Rachel...she's very talented, wise and fun!

and then, she {snapped}

Eat, Sleep, Cheer, Repeat!!

Carody has been working so very hard all week. She had been running, jumping and stunting. You can see the proof, the puffy circles under her eyes.  I can honestly say she has never wanted &/or worked for anything harder in her life.  She worked!  Hard!  All Week!

Carody has been in dance since she was three years old.  She has loved dance and has been absolutely fabulous at it.  Once she got into Jr. High though, her friends joined cheer, leaving her kind of on her own.  She had to wait until her eighth grade year because she had already committed to dance.  Once she got to join cheer with the rest girls, that was it, she was hooked!  However, in Jr. High it's like a club.  Anyone who signs up can be a cheerleader.  Once you get into High School you actually have to try out to make the team.  This week they held "camp" for tryouts.  Where you have a week to learn a cheer, stunt and a jump.  Then at the end of the week the official tryouts are held, the judges tally the scores and post the results.  It's absolutely excruciating!  ...and exciting!

Guess who made it?

My Carody!  That's who!

From the car window...

We went back after all the girls had gone home, just to look at it again!
...and to see who else had made it.
The List

I am so very VERY proud of you Sissy!  You worked hard for something you wanted.  I just can't tell you how very proud I am of you!  You are such an Amazing young woman!
You and your team have so much to look forward to and I can't wait to be there for it!
I Love you!

Flashback Friday

Little did I know when I had kids, that Disney would be such a big part of my life.  You see when I was kid, my favorite day of the week was Sunday.  My brothers and myself would eat our dinner as fast as mom would allow... after I inhaled my food, we would all rush to the living room and watch The Wonderful World of Disney on regular old fashioned TV.  Oh how I loved it!  As soon as I saw Tinkerbell flying her tiny self around Cinderella's Castle,  I could only imagine what magical adventure was about to take place...cartoons, movies and wild animals.  It was Amaaaazing!

Eventually...time passed.

I had children of my own.

...and then they all came back.  All the movies I loved as a child and many, Many, MANY more.  We got ourselves a bookshelf and stocked it full of Cinderella, Bambi, The Apple Dunpling Gang...the list goes on and on!

Enter The Disney Channel.

Oh & Disney Radio.

I found myself sitting right along side my kids, watching, singing the songs, and loving all the things that made me happy when I was young.  But more enjoyable was the fact that I was thrilled by my kids indulgence.  To this day we are avid Disney fans!  Like Peter Pan, we will never grow up when it comes to our love of Walt Disney and his ingeniousness.
Carody & Caden were Toy Story's Woody & Jesie for Halloween (2004).
My kids grew up with Woody & Jessie from Toy Story.  We've seen all three movies so many times that we practically know it word for word.  In the 2nd movie, when Jessie has flashbacks of being left behind, forgotten...I cry Every time!

It reminds me of just how fast my kids are growing up.  But it all works out in the end, and we maybe even learned a lesson or two.  Nothing wrong with that!    We all walk away with a smile & warm fuzzies, that's for sure.  "Besides," says Woody, putting an arm around his friend, "When it's all over, I'll have my old pal Buzz Lightyear to keep me company... To infinity, and beyond."

I am forever grateful to Mr. Walt Disney for giving my family laughter, education, the ability to use our imagination and most of all something we can share for a lifetime.  "You've Got a Friend in Me"

"I think I feel a Song comin' on!"

Flashback with us... It's fun!  You know you wanna...

Caden's 11th Birthday

Last year for Caden's birthday I made The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever. Just ask my son. He's been asking for it almost every day since. It's a recipe by Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman. She's a multi talented gal who blogs about photography, home schooling, cooking and much Much more.

This year, in honor of his 11th birthday, he asked for the chocolate sheet cake and Peanut Butter Balls. So by George, that's what he got!

I honestly don't know where the recipe for the Peanut Butter Balls came from.  I think I got it from a friends mother when I got married.  They will never get old!  You see...I Luuuuuvvvv me some Peanut Butter!!!

1 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Honey
2 Cups Oats
2 Cups Nonfat Instant Dry Milk

Mix all together, form into balls with hands and freeze on waxed paper.

Half with Nuts Half With Out Nuts!
