12 Days of Texture: Day 12

Today, yesterday really, is the last of the 12 Days of Texture with Kim Klassen.  I've really enjoyed this project for several reasons:

~  I got to try new things.

~  I got to experience the creativity of others.

~  I learned some new techniques.

~  I really enjoyed going back through all the pictures I've taken over the past year.  I had forgotten about some of them.

~  I've met some really artistic and friendly blog friends.

Thank you Kim for your textures, guidance and creating such a fun holiday treat.  I do appreciate every last bit you have given.  It's been a pleasure getting to know you.

This is the star on top of our tree.  Like me, it's rustic and simple...but still makes a statement.

Merry Christmas to you All!

12 Days of Texture: Day 8, 9, & 10

Day 8:  Storm Texture & Sunshine Brush

I took this picture while waiting for my kids to get out of school one day last week.  It's been quite rainy and foggy.

Day 9:  Lola

In February my girlfriend and I travel to Clear Lake, Iowa for the infamous "Winter Dance Party." Every year it's reconstructed at the Surf Ballroom to remember Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper), and Buddy Holly.   You can learn more about it Here.  It's a great time for people of all ages, and so far it's been sold out every year I've gone.

Day 10:  Providence

I took this shot one day last summer while attending an online photo class.  The assignment was to stop the motion of water.  The fountain is on the corner of Main Street in my small town, you can't miss it.

12 Days of Texture: Day 4

First let me explain for the lack of a better creation.

I'm at work, sitting at my desk...all day...every day.  I took this picture with my cell phone.  It's from a fortune cookie, and it's now residing in my desk.  Every time I open my desk drawer I see it looking up at me.  It reminds me to take some time to do something for myself.  Hence, the 12 Days of Texture.

SOOP:  {Straight Out Of my Phone}

Ok.  So I'm at work.  Remember?  Therefor I only have the use of Picnik.  I am fond of Picnik, don't get me wrong.  However, I'd be lying if I said that I can't wait to go home and use my version of Photoshop.  Especially for the use of the brush Kim has so graciously offered today.

Final Edit:

I think it turned out ok...but I know it can be so much better.  If you have any words of wisdom or advice...please do remark.  I am using this as a creative outlet, and a learning experience as well.

UPDATE:  Here's another one...yeah, it's that kinda day.  =)

12 Days of Texture: Day 3

I think this is my most favorite texture yet.  I absolutely love the rustic, vintage, hidden treasure of it.  The colors are amazing too.  The gold, brown and cream are a vision alone.  I will be playing with this one much, much more.

Thank you for sharing Kim....this is one of many, many beautiful textures ...and I am grateful for your extraordinary talent and generosity.

12 Days of Texture: Day 2

I had no luck finding a picture for today's texture, instead I used a vintage Christmas card.  It's cheery and bright, and colorful too.  Enjoy!

4 lil' birdies

Today it's cold...

and rainy.

That's ok though...cuz...Look'it what I got!

These little guys make my day bright and cheerful.  I've had the same old coasters for way to long, so I ordered myself a little Christmas gift.  Aren't they cute!?  They make me happy.

I got them at Papa Lulu Cache on etsy.  I would share the link, but
when I went to their page today it wasn't there.  *insert sad face*

War of the Wooden Soldier

Many years ago my mother-in-law gave me this wooden soldier for Christmas.  He's cute, and tall, and kinda creepy.  He freaks out my family when he shows up for the holidays.

And so it begins.

The war of the wooden soldier.

All weekend long my kids played this game with one another.  The "let's freak him out!" game.

First Carody put him in Caden's room.

Then Caden put him in Carody's room.

Caden has a "what's behind the shower curtain phobia", so Carody put the soldier in the shower.

Caden put him in the hall closet.

Then I put him in Carody's bed.

She put him in Caden's closet.

He finally ended up in my shower, wearing all my stuff!

Fuzzy slippers and all!

Wooden Soldier has since disappeared.
I'm pretty much thinking Big Daddy has something up his sleeve.

Pigging Out!

Maisy is sad.  She knows we're going out for the day.  She uses this pity face to make us feel bad for leaving.  She's just so darn cute!  I'll bring her a treat.

It's a cold and rainy morning. Me and Big Daddy are headed into the city for some Christmas shopping.  Just looking out the window makes me c-c-c-Cooold!

Anyway, we jumped in the car and headed out...without the kids.  Kinda weird without 'em.

Last night we were watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.  He just so happened to be on a tour of Kansas City Bar-B-Que joints.  We looove BBQ!  So after we did some shopping, our tummies were screaming at us, "Go Get Some BBQ!"  Our thought process:  Kidless = BBQ!

We headed out to Paola, KS,  home of The BBQ Shack.  The original location was an actual shack, they've moved into a pretty new strip mall just off the highway.  Bummer, I wanted to see the old place.

Don't let the strip mall fool you.  From the moment I opened the car door, the smell of smoked meats filled the air.  It makes your mouth water, you trip over your own two feet, cuz you just can't get inside quick enough!

Once inside, we were served by the Pit Master himself, Rick Schoenberger.  He's a super nice guy.  He's my new Facebook friend too!

Big Daddy got the ribs.  The meat simply fell off the bones, not overcooked at all.  They were so tender, they didn't even need any sauce, but of course we had to try all three.  Wimpy, Sweet Fire, and HOT!

I got the Wings & Strings.  They were melt-in-your-mouth good, and got even better when I put a hint of the hot bbq sauce on it.

*Whoa*!   Just take a look at this Texas size Pork Tenderloin Sandwich!

Oh, and here's the best part.

How can you turn down a Buffalo Turd?  Cored jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese & marinated water chestnuts and wrapped in bacon.  YuuuMeee!

After feasting, we went home and put on our PJ's.  We couldn't hardly move to do anything else!  So we were pretty much worthless the rest of the evening.

THAT my friends is a good date day with Big Daddy!

Cupcake-A-Licious!

I got my bakerella on this weekend and made some Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes.

I make cupcakes about once a year, IF that.
So this was a ball hit waaayyy out of the park for this mama.

I even got out the cake decorating kit I bought, ohhh about six years ago.
I had to dig it out of the storage room.

I did my version of the fancy swirl.

I think they look good.

Good enough to EAT!

Brother likes 'em.

...and Big Daddy.

Sissy couldn't stop talking to Boyfriend long enough to join us,
so she's doing the one handed cupcake.

When I took Sissy her treat,
I found this...

They may not be the prettiest, but they sure were Yummy!

Now for the Best part.

I'm going to share with you a tip I learned recently from a blog friend of mine.  You may want to visit her at Mommy Mishmash if you haven't already.  Katy Brown is a wife, mom and part-time super-hero. She lives in a humble, cozy home with her SuperHub and three adorable kids.

She. Is. A. Hoot!

This is what I learned recently from Katy, and it's actually the reason I even Made the cupcakes in the first place.

Just so I could do THIS!

THIS, my friends, is the correct way to eat a cupcake:

I Love it!

Thank you Katy!  I do believe I will be a baker of cupcakes more often.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes
1 box yellow cake mix
1 box instant vanilla pudding
1 cup (8oz can) pumpkin
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup water
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1tsp cloves
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients and bake at 350 for 20 min.  (Easy Peasy!)

Frosting
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cloves
2 cups (16 oz) powdered sugar

Actually, I just bought ready made Cream Cheese Frosting,
mixed it with a container of Cool Whip.
Quick & Yummy!
